Here's my opinion on buying new systems. Apply this to your decision
however you wish.

Generally speaking, the more you spend, the better the machine you get.
Also generally speaking, the better the machine you get, the longer it
will remain a viable machine for your uses.

The faster the processor you get, the longer you can go before needing
to buy a new computer. The more disk space you get, the longer you can
go before needing another drive. The more memory you get.... well, you
get the picture.

That's how I look at things. So, whenever I'm up to buying a new
computer, I look at my budget and I spend it. All of it. Every last
penny. It's often the difference between me needing to buy a new
computer in 24 months rather than 18 (or worse). Though, I'm not your
typical consumer user.......... if I'm not reasonably close to the
bleeding edge, I lose business. For you, it may be the difference
between having to get a new computer 6 years from now instead of 4.
