A good definition for general use. However, there is one other definition, though it's tied to this one. In sound equipment, "professional" can also designate consumer sound gear that is built with components of high enough quality to be used in a professional environment. This is also called "studio quality" in some circles. I do recording digitally these days. However, back in the early 1990s, I used to do my recording on cassette, and my tape deck has "professional" features like bias fine tuning and Dolby HX-Pro, and its tape transport is "studio quality." :) John A.
