Hi,
I'm trying to network my iMac (rev. D) with my old Performa 6400. Does
anyone know if this is possible?
As the iMac has an Ethernet jack and the Performa has a modem and a printer
port, I thought plugging a Fastnet or Farallon adaptor into the printer port
of the Performa and the phone wire coming out of the adaptor into the iMac's
Ehernet jack would do the trick, but I must be missing something.
Here is what else I've done so far (not necessary in the order listed
below):
On the Performa (which I want to set as host):
1) Used the Appletalk control panel to select printer port.
(It says in effect "no zone")
2) Used File Sharing control panel and clicked the Start file sharing
button.
3) Highlighted a volume and selected from Finder: Menu > File >
GetInfo > Sharing...
> Share this vol/folder and contents.
4) Opened the User and Groups control panel and selected Guest and
allowed guests to connect.
On the iMac:
1) Used the Appletalk control panel to select 'connect using
Ethernet'.
(Also says "no zone")
2) Opened the chooser and clicked Appleshare
(Couldn't see my Performa on the right window pane)
I did notice that the two LEDs on the Fastnet adaptor flashes occassionally.
I've also tried the reverse by trying to set the iMac as host.
Both machines are running on OS 8.6 and have Appletalk ON. The Performa has
88MB RAM and a Sonnet G3 400MHz upgrade card. The iMac has 96MB.
Could someone let me know what I've missed or done wrong? Or can someone
start me from scratch?
