I only have 128MB on a 500MHz Flower Power and Jag runs beautifully, albeit
a bit cramped when I try to run too many things simultaneously, but 128 MB
is listed by Apple as the mininum requirement and it works fine as my
wife's word processing, mail, Internet and bedroom tee-vee set machine.
However, I think the biggest factor is that you're going to run 10.1.x. OSX
is really sweet, but there's an almost night and day difference between
10.2.2 and 10.1.5. I had 10.1.5 on my G4 iMac with a gig of RAM for nearly
a year and it was tolerable, barely, what with the relentless "spinning
beachball", or whatever they call it now. I still used it as my primary OS
because stability is crucial to my work, and OSX of any flavor is peerless
in that regard, but the switch to Jaguar was well worth the 129 bucks.

As luck would have it, less than a week after I finally sprang for Jag,
Apple came out with the educational giveaway and my teacher wife got a free
copy.
