I guess the big question is: why are you interested in installing OS X at all? Are there problems that you're experiencing with your current setup that you think X will answer? I like X now that I have a brand spankin' new iMac, but I never really thought of running it on my beige G3 desktop. And when I do boot into OS 9, I immediately notice just how fast this iMac is.
Unless you have some compelling need to upgrade (e.g. some software only works under X, etc.) my feeling is that you'll actually be significantly happier under 9. Until you have the scratch to give OS X the hardware it wants, I think you'll be making some significant compromises for little gain. If you're going to drop $129, I recommend a significantly larger drive and more RAM first. You won't have to constantly clear your drive of older items, you'll have the ability to leave all your MP3s on board, and the entire system should be more responsive. OS X will still be here when you've saved up enough for a machine that will be perfect for it. Unless you have a compelling need, stick with OS 9. I think you'll find yourself happier in the short run. Cheers, Rich >>> So what do you think?
