Hi Gerry, I had the same questions when I first started using OS X. I think it is primarily a matter of getting used to a new way of working with windows. Now that I am familiar with window operation in OS X, I find it much easier than OS 9. To answer your question, you can select "New Finder Window" from the File menu and get a new window in which you can navigate to where you need to be. One thing that makes window navigation much easier in OS X is the "Computer", "Home", "Favorites" and "Applications" buttons at the top of the window. These allow you to get around quickly within the window. > > Another problem I encountered was when I wanted to open a file on a CD > from > within a program. In the resulting dialog box, slide the window's scroll bar all the way to the left and you should see your CD. > Sorry for the rant, but I'm so disappointed, and just needed to vent. The learning curve can be frustrating but I have found it to be very worthwhile. It might be worth keeping OS X around so you can work with it in small steps while using OS 9 as your primary OS. Just a thought. Incidentally, not that anyone asked, the following are two books that I have found very useful in making the switch to X: MAC OS X The Missing Manual David Pogue O'Reilly & Associates Learning Unix for Mac OS X Dave Taylor & Jerry Peek O'Reilly & Associates No affiliations with the above. I have just found them to be excellent references. Hope this helps Gerry. Jim -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
