You're not being "frugal," you're being conscientious.

The environmental impact of the millions of CD-Rs that are being thrown 
away every day is just now starting to be felt, and it's hard to 
imagine a more eco-unfriendly item than a CD-R. Plastic and aluminum -- 
now THERE'S a combo that will still be readable when archeologists dig 
it up 500 years from now!

Everyone should be making backups on CD-RWs or other "reusable" media 
(such as tapes) if at all possible. It's better for your privacy, and 
it's MUCH better for the earth. A CD-RW can take the place of up to 
*500* CD-Rs!!
