Hi All, I have a 15" flat panel combo drive imac. My operating system is: OSX 10.2.3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am able to connect to the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I downloaded the 10.2.3 combo download sunday night: slept on the couch with a timer set at 1.5 hours (the download was in mid-stream), woke up at the bell, went to the computer, download was finished. went to bed. next morning: connection worked at 34k 3 times in a row. i thought this is not great but it is good. then: same ole thing: no connection at any speed. called my internet provider and after talking to 5 folks and responding to all the same questions, someone suggested un-checking the compression mode box for the modem, which i had done before, but which i tried again. IT WORKED!! I now connect approx. 9 out of 10 times, which is very acceptable at this point for me. Thank you all for putting up with my "ranting" and helping me to make the decision to do a clean install and than to upgrade to 10.2.3. And thanks especially to all the personal emails i received from list members sharing with me their own connecting-with-the-internet problems and frustrations and their understanding of my own high level of frustration.
