Well, I finally got an error message at least (from OmniWeb):

Cannot Load Address

Unable to connect, unexpected EOF from server. Some servers will drop 
the connection if the client supports a version of the protocol it does 
not expect, or if the client does not support a protocol it requires. 
Try disabling or re-enabling some SSL or TLS versions in the HTTPS 
Preferences panel, and trying again.

We shall see.
