The HD of my 2 1/2 year old iMac DV SE died last week. I had just bought an Iomega CDRW over the holidays in order to back up to CD instead of the tedious floppies which I always postponed doing. The CD burner was bad, Iomega was in the process of sending a replacement when the HD died, without being backed up.
The harddrive replacement was covered under Applecare but I had to pay $127 for the dealer to save my data, plus a $75 hot bench fee, which meant it would get immediate attention, otherwise it would be 4 or 5 days before they could get to it. When I got the iMac back it now has OS 9.2 (previously was 9.0) I understand this is a good thing? On my desktop I have a folder entitled Back Up the window of which is seems identical to my prevous HD window. I have been moving things across to the new HD as I need them. But some things are already on the new HD, such as System Folder. Should I keep both? Right now I have just added the prefix 'old' so I don't get them confused. Also there are two folders: Damaged Items which contains a document from something called Disk Warrior and a couple of other WP documents of my own making pre crash. Rescued Items: which contains 33 items examples of which are DPLib and ProjLib and a bunch of things with an icon that features four purple arrows arranged in a diamond shape with the arrows pointing toward the centre of the diamond. I'm not sure what to do with any of these. Advice greatly appreciated. -Tina -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
