Let me go out on the proverbial limb, here, and speak for my experience with word
processors and PC technology in general.
I don't have any experience with AppleWorks (or Claris products before it), but it
stands to reason that what John says is true.
It seems to me, coming only recently to dip my toe in this side of the pond after a
lifetime of living on the PC side, that most demands of "full-featured" word
processors are from PC users. We PC users have in effect been kludging our word
processors into dual duty as desktop publishing/layout engines, because until
recently, no truly easy-to-use product has been affordable, or even available.
Now that there are alternative products designed to address those specific needs,
people who need word processing can get back to using the right tool for the right job
(ie, a typewriter that lets you move text before printing, and offers you the ability
to save between sessions).
Woe be to Microsoft when the unwashed masses realize they don't need an AK-47 to hunt
quail.
