Here's an example. I bought a used B&W G3 a ways back and had no idea of it's original purchase date or information. I called and asked to have the owner/registration information changed and the rep on the phone asked me if I wanted to buy Applecare for it. I said yes and gave them a Credit Card #. It was covered.
