Are they really that prone to breakage that Applecare makes sense for the

Not at all. Around our operation, just the opposite is more true. The new PC's we purchase are far more likely to have issues than the Apple's. Since our IT guy enjoys his salary, that's all fine in his world. <G>

Do most people really get more out of Applecare than the cost? Apple
wouldn't be offering it if they were losing money on it. Please tell me
where I'm wrong--thanks for enlightening me.
I'm sure they make money on it, at least I hope they do? I've always purchased Apple Care on new machines. It is that ounce of prevention that is great if you need it. If not, it's not an unreasonable cost to my way of the thinking. For a current MDD it runs $249.00, deduct the value of the TechTools it includes and you are looking at about 25 a day for an additional two years of full warranty.

Apple's typically run happily for years and never need factory service. There are those who argue that Apple's volume would improve it they put less quality control in their products. Even with that we're Apple Care purchasers. To me it's no different than carrying car insurance. You never want to use it, but it pays off if you need it.

I had a display screen die on a Pismo while on a business trip to Germany. I figured what the heck get hold of Apple Care. They put me in touch with an AASP in Stuttgart (about 50 miles from where we were). I took it in the next day and they replaced the display while we went and had lunch. My cost was nada.

I'm an Apple Care fan.
