I've watched this debate, and heard several on the list extol the benefits
of Applecare, and at least one opinion that those who don't buy it are
fools. Now first, comparing an extended warranty on a computer to health
insurance is ridiculous on its face. I don't think I need to expound, though
I'd be happy to if that's not perfectly clear.

Maybe I'm just unclear on what's covered, or the additional benefits. After
all, I've never had Applecare, or owned a computer that would qualify. Maybe
that makes me a fool too. I always thought that Macs were pretty reliable
creatures though. I've never had a hardware related issue with an Apple,
except when my old IIfx stopped working a couple years ago. I wasn't using
it anyway, but I don't believe that would have been covered by Applecare.

Are they really that prone to breakage that Applecare makes sense for the
average person? What do repairs cost on these machines, and how often does
something need fixing? What's more likely to go wrong during years 2 and 3
that didn't go wrong in the first year?

Do most people really get more out of Applecare than the cost? Apple
wouldn't be offering it if they were losing money on it. Please tell me
where I'm wrong--thanks for enlightening me.

Andy
