ah, i feel for you. in a previous life, i provided support and repair 
for one of the biggest installations of macs in public schools in the 
country. in the summers, we'd inventory and fix any problems that 
teachers (for whatever reasons) had failed to report to Repair.

in one lab, i found a 5400 with a nonfunctional CDROM drive. i assumed 
it was just plain dead, as the tray wouldn't open. something didn't 
feel right, though. there was a muffled rattle to the drive after i 
removed it. getting back to the maintenance annex, i took the drive 
apart...

inside, i found an entire crushed bag of m&m's, complete with wrapper. 
and one of these big Mother's cookies you'll find in vending machines 
(crumbled, of course).
