Geoff, you been mislead by all the "processor speed" hype and are comparing apples and oranges (no pun intended.)
Oh, BTW, IIRC, don't the current desktop Macs have TWO 1.4 GHz G4s? If so, you'd have to get almost a 5 GHz Intel chip.

If the new Macs were blowing the paint off the P4 don't you think Apple would be using this in their ads., Have you ever seen anyone say Macs are faster then PCs. Macs used to be faster when the 1st PPC chips came out, and no, dual 1.4s do not equal the P4. They went to dual processors because they were really losing the speed race and this is a band aide approach.. The program has to be made to take advantage of the dual processors, this not always the case. OS X does run better under the dual processors.. Do a little more research, this is a major problem for Apple. and is holding back the switch to OS X Approximately 25% of Apple users have switched. This Ghz and bus speed situation is making many people a bit worried.. I do not want to go PC but neither am I going to blindly pay Apple top dollar for new G4 equipment to run an unfinished OS X run a little faster then OS 9.
