Geoffrey, I don't think the processor speed is really an issue here. It's more an issue of going out and buying (and learning) a new OS when the one you have suits your needs. How many users are still out there running Windows 95, 98 and ME? Why haven't they run out and bought a copy of XP? Same reason. As I mentioned earlier this week, I still see people just now unloading computers running the A version of Win 95.
I run 10.2 on a 500 MHz iMac, and I'm extremely pleased with it. In fact, I went out and bought upgrades for 2 pieces of software I never intended to, just so I could run them in X and not classic. I don't think the big issue is that X runs *faster* than 9, it's that it's a completely different OS--better designed and more stable. As someone else mentioned, if what you're looking for is raw speed, then buy a PC. I think processor speed is really overrated though.
