That isn't always true. Its really dependant on how the cable company decides to set things up. Around here, they run both TV and internet over the same cable. So here, you simply disconnect the cable TV from your TV, install a splitter, then connect one line back to the TV and the other line to the cable modem.
My brother's setup (different cable company that I have here), you connect the cable modem inline with the TV, so you disconnect the TV, connect to the cable modem, then connect a 2nd wire from the cable modem to the TV... kind of like the way channel descramblers are connected.
Lots of different ways to get the same effect.
My error then...I didn't realize there were that many ways to work it! Ours our two separate cords - 3 if you add in our DISH network cable! We have so many cables we couldn't blow away if we tried! LOL!
