Can somebody guide me through this?
Are you really SURE you want/need GIMP? Why? What are you planning to do with it?
Gimp, and X11, is generally for megageeks who spend most their time in the command-line and want to play with X for some arcane reason. It is not for beginners and OS X's Aqua is much much better.
Sorry if this email sounds kinda vague and confusing. I'm just very confused.
Then reassess if you really want Gimp.
