Tamara,
I occasionally have the same problem with Internet Exploder, in fact, I just
checked and it's doing it on this iBook I'm using.

This has worked for me, but not every time, mind you:

Trash IE, as you did before, then go into your preferences folder and trash
everything you can find that has anything to do with IE or Explorer or MS
internet, such as cache and history files. As you probably already know,
though, if you don't save your favorites file and replace the one in the new
install, you will lose all of them. By the way, the latest version is 5.2.3,
so make sure that's what you have.

In OS 9, if you reinstall a program but don't dump the prefs, you are
running off the old, possibly corrupted prefs, which could have been the
source of the problem. I'm am assuming that OSX works the same way. Problem
with dumping prefs is that there could be a programs registration info
stored there, so a backup record is essential for anything that isn't
freeware. IE is free of course, but then, is it really.

Good luck. As you, I long for the day when IE can be trashed forever.
Cheers,
John
