I posted the same problem a few weeks ago, got many helpful suggestions from the list (thanks to you all) but never got the Zip running. The machine has 8.5 on it & had the software installed more times than I can count (from the CD, from an Iomega download). The same Zip runs fine on a G4. Kept getting "The software needed to run the Zip drive is not installed . . ." I may still try 8.6 one of these days.

Has anyone tried the "keychain" USB drives on an early iMac? If they work, they'd provide a reasonably efficient path for i/o, backing up critical files, &c.
