Make sure you put a .doc extension at the end of the file name. They 
actually can open the file, but they have to look at the file under 
Explorer (file manager) and rename the file with a .doc ending. I do 
this all the time between home and work.

Since moving to Panther (I think it was OK under Jaguar, but I may be 
mistaken), it has happened quite a few times that on sending Word 
files in attachment while using Apple Mail.app, the person at the 
other (Windoze) end has not been able to open the document.

I have checked the various settings that are available in Mail.app 
(why didn't Apple come up with a better name, iMail perhaps?) and I 
couldn't find anything to solve the issue.

I'm not sure if it is OS X icon resources, some form of compression or 
whatever (I send the Word file as it is, actually), but they just seem 
unable to open the file.

Anyone knows of a remedy? - I have no alternative but to send Word 
files to Windows people, before drastic suggestions are put forward...
