No, the file should be exactly the same, it doesn't matter what the format of the disk is, HFS or HFS+. If it had been on a DOS PC formatted disk, THAT might mess something up, but going between the two Mac formats shouldn't alter the file at all. > My plan includes putting the disk into a 4400 clone and format and load a > system on it. If you can get your hands on a real Apple USB keyboard, I'd try that first. That should let you boot from CD by holding C or boot with extensions disabled or selected with shift or spacebar. It would be much less work to install a fresh OS that way then to take the iMac and 4400 apart, plus deal with the potential issue I mentioned above.
