Along the thread, I have a question that is boggling my brain. Currently have, as a travel <infrequent, but happens> companion, one of the original clamshell iBooks. Yes, it's reached and then some it's capability and capacity load. My predicament comes in trying to decide what to replace it WITH!

On the one hand, an iBook is more affordable. At the same time, it's obvious that the Powerbook has the advantage <from what I can tell> of expandability, more power, etc. The problem comes in dollars. What's the best investment for finite dollars??

Your choice should be based on what you primarily plan to use the computer for and what you may see yourself using it for in the future. If all you are using it for is e-mail/web browsing, managing home finances, Word docs,
a few games, then an iBook would be more than sufficient.

If you plan to do more graphic intensive work like heavy Photoshop/Photo editing, using other graphic programs like Indesign, Illustrator, etc etc. then you would probably want the Powerbook.

I recently bought a 15" Al Powerbook and use it daily for Photoshop work. I take hundreds of photos a month and do a great deal of digital illustration too so I needed the power and expandability that the Powerbook offered.
It's a fantastic computer and the 80 Gig drive is great to have but fills quickly with super high res photos.
The Powerbook is fantastic - it renders in Photoshop very quickly and is way better than my 500 mhz Indigo iMac.

Since you already have a G5, and from what you said in your e-mail, I think the iBook would meet your needs quite nicely. There's no point in paying an extra $1,000 + for computing power you don't need.

Good luck with your decision !
