The 350 model powers up, and you can hear the hard drive clicking away happily for a while. Sounds like it is booting just fine, but you get no picture, just a black screen. I don't recall any info on it beyond that. I have a feeling the CRT charges, but no picture comes up. I did not test turning up the screen control to verify the CRT. The unit is currently in storage, and I can't get to it until next week, so I can't retest anything to verify better information. The DV model has had an on going problem where it would shut itself off from time to time. Not too long ago, it got to the point of shutting off every 15 minutes or so. Removing the cover to the case cured it (indicating that it was likely a heat failure). Later, putting the cover back on, but removing the carry handle also kept it functioning. The other night, after about 3 months of good solid operation with the handle removed, it went off, and now stays off. Attempts to power it on get it as far as hearing the power circuit cycle on and right back off (power light also lights green, then goes off again). Whole on/off process takes about half a second. Makes me believe there is a short. Previous research into the issue leaned heavily towards it being a Flyback failure that was causing it to shut off when hot. And additional research leans towards it being a flyback failure now that it won't turn on and stay on. Aledgedly the same overall issue, only it finally shorted enough to no longer allow it to come on. So I haven't done any "testing" on the actual components yet. I was more feeling out my options to see what direction I go. If the 350 carries a possible replacement power board, then I will go that route and test and potentially swap parts. If the 350 was right out as a doner machine, then I would look into alternate options (such as converting the DV to an ATX case... I don't intend to buy a new PAV board) >If you do any successful swap involving the video board part, don't forget >you will most likely have to adjust the screen white balance via the usb >adjust utility, and add a link to the video board first. I don't plan to swap the video boards. I only want to swap the power board, so hopefully, this won't be of issue to me. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
