I wasn't sure how common it was on the slot load macs. Mine seemed to fit all the same descriptions. And I'm sure it is a heat failure, no matter what it turns out to be that went bad. I plan to do a little testing BEFORE attempting to safely remove the power board on both machines and do the swap. I don't want to swap it until I have at least narrowed down some of the obvious stuff. Alas, I lack the tools and talent to do too much in depth testing to track down an actual bad component (but I can do a visual inspection, as well as check voltage levels at some key points).
