Set up a "hot corner" in the screen saver preference panel. Instantly put it in the screensaver mode. Select require password to wake and any nosy coworkers will be excluded. Just Control+ eject will bring up a restart-sleep-shutdown panel anytime you want.Automatic "sleep time" can be adjusted in System Preferences/Hardware/Energy Saver or you can force the machine to sleep by pressing Option-Command-Eject.
