I'd still look to see if you have other software that may be getting in the way. It does seem like a software issue, and since it is definitly NOT normal, it isn't likely to be with the OS (although it could be something corrupt, but a reinstall would fix that).
If a change affects the entire GUI, then it's the OS issue for me. You're right that it might be caused by something other than Mac OS X/Aqua/kernel itself, but if the system cannot protect itself from these kind of glitches... well, I blame the system.
I would really lean towards something else that is installed is somehow altering where the mouse is. Watch when it happens. What were you just running or doing? (...)
It happens so rarely, that I cannot tell from memory. I will try to jot down some notes the next time. Thanks for the suggestions.
But I believe my point still remains: would you expect to be forced to look for all this and figure it out on your own, being the user of "world's most advanced operating system"? Windows XP never gave me these kind of trouble, and I believe I used it in much more extreme situations
By the way, I don't want to come across as Mac OS X basher, I still like it better than Windows. :)
