Yes I know this, that is where/when I cannot see my printer. It is in the
right side pane of the chooser when booted in 9 but it is not when boot in X
and using Classic.

This is because you have at least two valid OS 9 folders on the drive. I've found a LOT of confused Mac owners who do this -- they think that "Classic" and OS 9 are not the same thing. I know it's a little hard to grasp, but think of "Classic" as a shell that allows OS 9 to run inside OS X.
