>no point in learning a dead OS. exactly. ditch OS 9 ASAP. There's no point in learning OS 9, when OS X is so much easier to use and navigate. Set him up with X11 at the same time, and install GIMP, give him a few lessons on how to use it (after looking at it a few times yourself), and help him when he has questions with it. GIMP isnt too hard actually to use. One thing to make sure you set is that the window focus changes when you move your mouse over a window (like a toolbar). If and when you decide to use GIMP, i can find out how to do that.
