the iTunes store stays in business and you can run the iTunes
software. At least it's a loose-DRM, tho - so you can convert the
tracks to mp3 or other formats without any significant loss. That

like Rhapsody or Napster 2.
No, I'm not. You can never *own* copyrighted works. You are
*licensed* to hold a certain number of copies under certain
conditions, that's all.
You don't need to be connected to play or keep the music you've
purchased. I've purchased music from the iTunes Store and play it on
an OS 9 machine with iTunes 2 which can't access the Store. Also,
once the track is converted to AIFF then you can burn it to a cd and
play it just about anywhere.
Right, exactly my point: Apple's loose-DRM enables this increased
longevity, for now.
But note that the licensing terms are variable. Apple can change
them at any time, and already has (twice?). Unlike a commercially
purchased CD (unexpiring unchanging license), if Apple changes the
terms to say your downloaded tracks die next month, voila - thou
becomest a pirate. scam scam scam.
