Because I had a version of the Sims that ran on Classis, but I use classic
mode in OSX, does that count :)

Subject: Why do people like OS 9?

Okay, after the discussion on Classic mode, I got thinking, and I've
decided to do social experiment. :)

So, I want to hear from everyone on here who still uses OS 9 or 8 on
machines that are capable of running OS X. If you have a machine
that won't run OS X and can't afford a new machine, please don't
answer this because your reasons are obvious enough.

But, if you have a machine that can run OS X but choose not to, or if
you could easily afford a new machine that can run OS X but choose
not to, I want to hear your reasons why. As a computer geek, I am
really curious as to why anyone would use OS 8/9 when there is a much
better OS available for a reasonable price. If you think OS 9 is
better, I want to know your reasons. Also, if you are still using
Classic a lot in OS X, please give me those reasons as well.

Let me also say that I have some old Macs laying around that I
continue to use for various purposes that run old versions of the OS
(in fact I have an LC running right now to clean up an external SCSI
I sold to someone on the swap list). I do this because there is
nothing wrong with the machines and they are still useful for some
things, like kids games. So, don't bother replying with those type
situations. I'm interested in main-machine usage only, not hobby
machines or special purpose machines that still get used. These
machines generally wouldn't fit in the "can run OS X" category anyway.

After I have read all the initial round of responses, I will write
one blanket reply and may quote from several emails. I want to
understand why people even care whether or not Classic mode will
still be available on the Intel Macs. I also want to understand why
people tend to hang on to things as they are and often choose not to
be in the stream of progress, always looking for better tools.

Just curious,
Todd
