Ok1. Finder speed.

Comparing OS X on a 1.5 GHz G4 PowerBook vs OS 9 on a PowerMac 7300/180. Think about that - a puny 180 MHz machine vs a Supercomputer.

Opening Finder windows under OS X is SLOW. If you have a very large folder tree, it takes up to twice as long to open a folder than it does on OS 9.

Searching thru files in OS X is SLOW. The 'old OS 9 app File Buddy can search for files by name, matching multiple criteria FAR faster than OS X does. And File Buddy's search within files for specific content... FAR faster than on OS X, except for Spotlight. But then Spotlight crashes.

Ok2. AppleTalk.

File sharing between OS 8 and OS 9 machines WORKS. It's reliable and fast - easily maxing out the machine's NIC.

OS X has never reliably been able to talk to OS 8 and OS 9 machines, regardless of whether you use AFP/AT or AFP/IP.

And of course, AFP/AT has been killed from Tiger. So it's now totally unable to talk to OS 8 Macs, unless you fork out $$. And it's slower than Panther when talking to OS 9 machines - something to do with the "modified" AFP/IP in Tiger interacting with the AFP/IP in OS 9.

Next. :)
