I can safely say that I have had more problems with OS X than most of
my OS 9 and OS 8 and System 7 machines. I had one machine that didn't
seem to like me too well (LC 575, used), but other than that, I have
found OS 9 to be more stable than 10.3.9. I've had to re-install it
twice in a little more than a year, and although kernel panics are
rare, apps are constantly quitting or having to forced to quit. I
rarely had to trash preference files in OS 9, and the only font problem
i EVER had was with one of my sisters games.
OS X has all the permissions and unix scripts - crap. My Windows 98
machine is more stable than OS X has ever been for me. I can't speak
for everyone - hopefully I'm a 1 in 1000 occurrence.
At least, in OS 9, we new how to recover from those things. Extension
conflict? No problem. At the very worst, all you would have to do is
get out a system CD. Printing is pretty easy to solve too.
Again, I can't speak for everybody, but my oS 9 experience was (and
still is) much better than my OS X.
