Charles' typical YELLING instanance that he's 100% right may be his
experience, but it's certainly not ours.
Between me and my clients, we have over four hundred Macs. Less than
a dozen running OS X (Panther and Tiger), the rest running OS 8.6 or
9.2.2.
We track system failures carefully - hardware failures, app crashes,
OS crashes.
So far this year:
132 OS X kernel panics.
222 app crashes under OS X.
1 Mac OS 8.6 system freeze. My fault. I locked it up with VNC. One
of those things you do, then you say d'oh - I knew not to do that! :(
2 Mac OS 9.2.2 crashes. These were both Finder abends.
3 hardware failures: Two G4 PowerBooks running Panther required new
motherboards. I burned out a NIC in a PowerMac 7300; my fault tho.
Then there's my housemate's G4 PowerBook and one of my client's, both
getting BSOD's on a regular basis. Looks like Apple's solution will
be a motherboard swapout.
