I have been happiest with Western Digital. They run cooler than Maxtor and quiet. I tend to buy the "Special Edition" ones with the 8MB cache rather than the 2MB cache. Makes a difference in performance.

Charles, since you're using lots of WD drives, I was curious if you have experienced the same high failure rate that I've seen among clients and friends with WD drives? I've seen enough that I personally don't ever buy WD anymore. I was curious if other people have had the same failure rate, though. Nowadays, I only buy Seagate because they are the quietest, have a 5 year warranty(as opposed to Maxtor's 1 and WD's 3 - or are they down to 1 now to?), and I've never actually seen a dead Seagate in person. Has anyone reading this seen dead Seagates in recent years?

Peace,
Todd
