Charles, since you're using lots of WD drives, I was curious if you
have experienced the same high failure rate that I've seen among
clients and friends with WD drives? I've seen enough that I
personally don't ever buy WD anymore. I was curious if other people
have had the same failure rate, though. Nowadays, I only buy Seagate
because they are the quietest, have a 5 year warranty(as opposed to
Maxtor's 1 and WD's 3 - or are they down to 1 now to?), and I've never
actually seen a dead Seagate in person. Has anyone reading this seen
dead Seagates in recent years?
Peace,
Todd
About 3-4(?) years ago I had two bad drives in a row from Seagate, both
were 2.1 GB SCSI. Each lasted less than a week. I found out they were
Connor stock just after Seagate bought them out. They (CDW) finally
replaced it with a Barracuda drive and that one still works fine.
Only other failure I can remember is a Quantum 760 MB drive (also
SCSI), but it ran 24/7 for 6 or 7 years. And it still works, it's just
painfully noisy now.
The 40 GB Maxtor in the iMac is very occasionally noisy, but 99% of the
time is quiet as a mouse. I'm starting to worry about it a little
however.
