Hi John, Iwas in the industrial and medical electronic service business for many years. I always pull the tele cable from the modem if any lightening is near by. The modem works on much lower voltage than the power supply. I agree with someone who advised you to buy another as other parts most likely are damaged and will go bad soon. Regards Wm.--
