Hello:

This is my first message to this list and I hope someone can help me.

I bought my iMac in January 2000, and up to now, it has served me well.
(I know that Mac's live longer than PC's because they're better built)

But now, my iMac is dying a slow death. A few months ago, I got a CD stuck
in the drive. I've tried everything short of trying to pry the slot-loading
open and ripping it out.

I had a tech come over and gave me an estimate of $175 to break it open and
about $100 or so for a replacement. He said something is bent inside.
(The machine want's to eject the CD, but it can't complete the process.)

In addition to that problem, the speakers won't when they want to, I'm
running OS 9.22 and my machine seems to be running a bit slower. I just
bought a new keyboard ( A Kensington ) which works just fine, but it's time
for a new machine.

Can anyone tell me anything a tech couldn't tell me about getting out the
CD? When I try to eject via the normal methods, I get a humming sound like
a truck starting.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike Burris
