Hi Emily, sorry the instructions come packed w/ the battery and
they guide you through the process on the phone if you need it.
There are very good illustrations from Everymac. com, as well.

2) put in a fresh battery (try headgap.com for good price and
illustrated instructions)
I have a graphite 600 MHz slot-loader with a (I suspect) ailing
battery. I live in NW Alabama, and the nearest "Mac hospital" is 70
miles away in Huntsville. headgap.com sounds like an ideal place
for me
to order a battery (shipping from Memphis wouldn't take very long;
it's
only about 150 miles away), but exactly where on the site are the
instructions you refer to?
OK; thank you. (I've heard that pliers and opening the RAM door are
required when installing a battery on slot-loading iMacs, which is a
rather frightening prospect for me--I still wish I could have a
professional do it.)
