I write about software so I have a selection of utilities for data recovery:

I have Data Rescue II, FileSalvage 6, Klix, Picture Rescue, PhotoRescue,
Stellar Phoenix, TechTool Pro, DiskWarrior, MediaRecover, and a few more.

Software will not save a dying hard drive but some of these programs can
work miracles even with damaged CDs, DVDs, flash cards, camera media cards
and flakey hard drives.
