I just set up an email list for the Board of Directors of an association I
belong to - mostly as an easy way to test all their email addresses, and to
give them a taste of email group communication, since it looks like they are
all online for the first time.
They think they want an email group, so some of them are toying with it.
Here's the thing - they can't really use this thing for meetings unless
there is an Open Private mode like we talked about a few days ago.
If only the board is subscribed, and no one else, no others can observe the
"meeting", and it aint legal.
An optional second user list - a submitter list ( with, in this case, only
board members) - is needed.
If that was one of the list options, it would provide the control a
moderator needed.
The moderator could enable non-BOD subscribers to observe at times, and
enable them to contribute at times - for instance, between "meetings", or if
things get out of hand during a "meeting".
The moderator could invite a guest by adding them to the submitter list, and
remove him when the time came, without changing a bunch of passwords
Of course these "meetings" are not taking place in real time, but you still
need that kind of control.
I felt I ought to bring it up again, because I think there is a need for
something like this, and because I'm still concerned that some sort of
password system would be considered a suitable alternative.
Unless I misunderstand, I think a password is nice if conditions don't
change and you know you have people who can handle it, but I think all your
flexibility goes out the window.
I think it would be a nice corporate feature - and I'll even volunteer to
help write the paragraph in the manual describing how to use it.
