Not if you buy used hardware, though.  For example, in order to purchase a
support contract for a Pix to get firmware upgrades, the Pix has to be
certified, at a cost of $240 for the chassis, and $240 per interface card.
So assuming you take out any additional interface cards, leaving only the 2
internal interfaces, you still have $720 for certification, plus $240 for
the support contract.
