Hi, I'm a webmaster for an ISP and I've had the exact same problems and couldn't
figure it out. then finally a did a little experiment.
I installed imail 6.06 on
win2000 Server(SP1), win2000 Pro(SP1), and winnt 4.0 server(SP6a)
all using the same external ODBC database on a sql 7 server
I sent 3 messages the same account that resides on each of the boxes(ex testaccnt@<IP
of win2kpro>, testaccnt@<IP of NT4>, testaccnt@<IP of win2ksrver>)
I then went into the webmail interfaces(using Humankind webmail 1.5) and tried to
delete those messages.
Windows 98 SE (one of the early editions) was the computer I was using to access the
webmail(it was the only computer I could find that was having the same problems our
customers were having with deleting mail)
on the win2000 mail servers, I tried 3 times to delete each of the messages..every
attempt failed(giving different error messages..everything from doing nothing at all -
returning to the message list without deleting the messages, to saying "invalid
action", "memory allocation error", "server could not be found")
but if I use a windows 2000 computer(IE 5.5) to access the webmail on any of the mail
servers, messages will be deleted every time without a problem. the same is also true
if I use netscape on the win98SE.
on the NT4 mail server, every attempt to delete the messages was a success, whether I
was accessing from win98SE or win2000, IE or netscape.
Therefore I've decided that I'm switching our 3000 mail users from our brand new
win2000 imail 6.06 server to an NT4 imail 6.06 server.
obviously Microsoft or Ipswitch have some issues to work out.
its a shame because I really like win2000..
