Well, then I think you probably agree that if you're AOL, and your mail
servers are backed up, and you got a bunch of known bulk mail in the queue,
it's gotta be tempting to just dump it.

>>> It's not unique to IMail.  <<<

Who knows, though. Maybe it's unique to list servers that AOL is abusing.
My old SmartList messages had "Precedence: list" in the headers. I don't
know how they're doing now - but apparently Yahoo Groups, which doesn't use
that line, is doing OK.

Can anyone here who's subscribed to a non-IMail list - where people are
complaining about AOL dropping mail - check a few headers and see if there
is a "Precedence:" line?

And for that matter, can anyone here who's subscribed to a non-IMail list -
where you're sure AOL is not dropping a bunch of mail - check a few headers
and see if there is a "Precedence:" line?

>>>Although it would be nice to have control over it, I'm sure most people
would just disable it, which ruins its original intent.<<<

IMail List Server generates the precedence line so that the IMail server can
prioritize, right?
If this is used internally, why does it have to be a red flag for AOL?
What if it said "red" instead of "bulk"?

Wouldn't that work just peachy for IMail server - and throw AOL off the
trail?

Rumor has it that AOL has a secret "point" system (IE maybe you lose 1 point
if you have no reverse DNS, 3 points if you are listed in their open relay
database, etc.).

That's pretty standard to help prioritize mail. That way, for example, a
mail server that has a queue (spool) that is full can send out the E-mail
without the bulk precedence first. It's not unique to IMail. Although it
would be nice to have control over it, I'm sure most people would just
disable it, which ruins its original intent.
