>>>That's why AOL customers that don't receive their mail need to complain
to AOL. <<<
I'm gonna let my AOL users know when I've got something concrete, but
frankly, it's not gonna work if I'm the only one trying. The hundred or so
AOL customers who aren't getting MY list mail are outnumbered something like
250,000 to 1 by 25 million blissfully ignorant AOL customers who never
squawk.
That's why I'm so interested in the possibility of just eliminating the
Precedence header - my chances are better.
>>>IMail is simply saying "This message is being sent to a lot of people",
AOL is interpreting that as "It's OK to delete this E-mail". <<<
Maybe I'm not stressing this enough. It is NOT just AOL that is treating
list mail as inferior. I'm saying that Ipswitch - and everyone else who
agrees that there should be a Precedence header - believes that list mail as
inferior.
So, while everyone would love to see a pipsqueak like me take on the AOL
bully over dumping mail, I don't get any sympathy for being a target.
Kinda like begging your mom not to make you wear the dorky shirt grandma
gave you, because you know you're gonna get beat up. (I think she said,
"Don't be silly, it's a nice shirt.")
>>>We don't have an AOL account to play with, so we won't be able to do much
testing on this, but maybe we will get one. The software we wrote to test

testing of AOL is in order.<<<
Please do - I'm prepared to beg! - and I'll help any way I can.
An AOL account would be free for a month, so it's a little less inconvenient
than testing some other service.

AOL it treating the mailing list mail as inferior or less desirable or
whatever. IMail is simply saying "This message is being sent to a lot of
people", AOL is interpreting that as "It's OK to delete this E-mail".

With AOL, it's very hard to know exactly what they are doing. At this
point, it *appears* as though they are using a "point system", and are
taking points away from us for sending mail in a mailing list labelled as
"bulk". But, with a point system, there have to be other points taken off
somewhere (perhaps AOL's bogus 'The reverse DNS must match the MX record of
the virtual host' deal, not having an AOL address in the "To:" field, or
something they aren't telling us).
Trial and error is all we have that is guaranteed to probably work (if that
makes any sense). We have to just keep trying things. We don't have an AOL
account to play with, so we won't be able to do much testing on this, but
maybe we will get one. The software we wrote to test Declude can send out
E-mails using whatever headers we like, so maybe some testing of AOL is in
order.
