I think it would be useful, no less compliant with RFCs than the "nobody"
alias, and easier to manage than the cumbersome task of manually
unsubscribing former users. Perhaps this would be a nice feature to add to
IMail 7? Thanks!

Looks like you want, a 'nobody, except this list' kind of operation (which
is what it already is, the exceptions are valid accounts, aliases or lists).
Of course, now one has the task of maintaining the 'exceptions' list. True,
that would be 'easiser' than deleting 624 emails, but a more 'critical'
task.
I still see the simpler solution is not to use 'nobody'. But that is just my
opinion. And Vacation message, solves List Server loops (only one response
per email address). I can see that your method could cause the user to
become unsubscribed from the list (I have been known to pull them when
'mailbox full' messages are returned, usually after 7 days) after some time.
