Or it's required for them to give it to authorized persons.

Have you tried to find out who registered a domain name when an uninformed
client comes to you with no web host, tech etc and just says "here's my
domain name.... can you move it"... Network Solutions, Regster.com,
Mydomain.com, etc, etc, etc......

I still don't have a good way to get to the proper registrar when a client
comes without knowing where it was registered.  Ideas?

I'm surprised that Network Solutions allows the other registrars access to
the WHOIS data (rather than just a "yes/no" as to whether or not the domain
is available).  I'll bet the registrar is either paying big bucks for that
WHOIS data, or NS will be changing things so that they can't get it anymore.
