I have never had an issue with ADO (2.5 or higher) fail to resolve a DNS name. I can suggest that you never use ODBC defined DSNs with ADO. Instead use "DSNless" connections where the connection info is supplied at the time of the connection and not pre-defined in a DSN which is referenced in the openconnection. This is faster, more reliable and gives you the ability to maintain your own config info for server name, catalog names, user names and passwords.
