Coming in late too and could be duplicate account as suggested. Also, check to see if user checking e-mail from another machine left on at work and if frequently (i.e. every 2-5 minutes). I had a thread several weeks back on Duplicate Messages. I swore it was IMail causing the problem because I saw on different mail clients (Outlook & The Bat). Now convinced the problem can also be caused by mail clients checking for messages frequently and/or from several machines. The mail clients get confused because sessions/processes not fully completed/closed. We have cleared up the issue by reducing frequency when checking messages (i.e. every 10-15 minutes).
